Hot News : So THAT Happened - update.
Earlier this week I wrote about the "Maddux," a random baseball statistic I sort of made up years ago, and which I love to keep track of. Cliff Lee and Matt Cain had both come close to throwing one Wednesday night, and I said at the end of my post that I expected it to be someone fairly random, and that the beauty of the thing is that you could never really know when it might happen. Well, this afternoon, the White Sox' Philip Humber pitched the first "Maddux" of the season, but for some reason no one seems to have noticed.Okay, so the reason no one seems to have noticed is because Humber also threw a perfect game, and while the Maddux is a rarity, the perfect game is the absolute pinnacle of pitching. I plan to share a few more thoughts on Humber's performance in a couple days, in connection with some exciting news I'll be announcing soon. For now, I just want to tip my hat to Humber. Whether he goes on to a great career or not remains to be seen, but no one can ever take this game away from him. Plus, he gets to meet Kate Upton now, and that's nothing to sneeze at.
